HVFC: 2019 Year in Review

Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to a total of 555 calls for emergency services in 2019.

Of those:
Medical: 307
Fires: 17
Smoke, CO detector activations: 49
Motor vehicle accidents: 76
Power line down: 16
Arching/shorted electrical equipment: 8
Watercraft rescue: 2
Hazmat or gas leak: 8
Carbon monoxide incident: 9

Structure fire, Nov. 2019

Dispatched and canceled in route, or false alarm: 23
Public service/good intent calls: 22
Other: 18

Members also organized the Emergency Services Spring Fair & Open House, a community Easter egg hunt, the annual Children’s Christmas Party, Old Timer’s Night honoring Life Members; and Fire Prevention Month school visits.

HVFC provided fire and EMS coverage at the Durham Fair, Haddam River Days fireworks, Kids Run-a-Muck, and marched in the annual Memorial Day Parade.

In 2019, HVFC welcomed new members: Joel Newgard, Kris Proto, Michael Saxton, Nicholas Ortiz, and Christina Bennicoff. Junior Division Member Sierra Statkiewicz moved up into the regular membership.

Open House, April 2019

In 2019, four Life Members (retired members who served for at least 15 years) passed away: Renzy Vallera, William Pytlik Sr., Stephen Harlow Sr., and William Flannigan; and Honorary Life Member Phil Goff.
