At the beginning of April, we told you about the results of the Haddam Killingworth High School cupcake competition, and how one team from HKHS moved to the Regional Cupcake Competition which took place on April 26, 2019 at Morgan High School. We followed up with teacher Joanna Siciliano to find out the results of the competition.

At the regional competition, Lexi Lloyd, Jenna Griffith, and Erin Lepard, from HKHS, made lemon cupcakes, filled with lemon curd, and topped with a rose lemon frosting. Katie Schrempp, Karen Reinoso, and Heather Zimmerman, from Morgan High School, made a carrot cake cupcake with cream cheese-citrus icing. Myah Martinez and Taylor Harpin, from Valley Regional High School, made vanilla tie dye cupcakes with butter cream frosting. Riley Hart, Aubrey Standish, and Marlie Gill, from Bacon Academy, made lemon lavender cupcakes with lavender frosting. The HKHS team was the only team to make a filling in this final round.

Jenna said, “I was really nervous until I got there and when we started putting our cupcakes and display together it was a blast, and I enjoyed the experience and the people.” Ms. Siciliano, the HKHS teacher who accompanied the students said, “The trio worked super hard. It was a tough competition. All the cupcakes were amazing!”

At the end of the day, HKHS’s team won first place, and Bacon Academy took second place.  Ms. Siciliano said of the team of sophomores, “they are the youngest group to take the win for HK.”

The winner of the regional competition took home a cupcake trophy that will be kept at HKHS until next year’s competition. The students who won will have their names put on the trophy’s nameplate that will stay forever on the trophy.

Congratulations!
