Dr. Megan (MacKenzie) Panico of Killingworth Pulmonolgist at Hartford Hospital Helps Save Retired Policeman’s Life

(April 27, 2020) — I began coaching Megan MacKenzie in swimming when she was in the 4th grade. She lived in Killingworth in Patsy Kamercia’s old house there. That house had a pool, and Megan began swimming at an early age.

She quickly became an elite, all-state kind of swimmer who rewrote the record board at HK in just about every event. I also had her as a student in junior English. She was an excellent student as well. Megan went on to become a registered physical therapist and then an MD and has ties to UCONN and to Hartford Hospital as well as to Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford.

Some of you may well remember that as a teenager Megan herself was a patient at Gaylord for awhile after a car accident. This experience helped nudge her toward medicine as a career. She was a great kid to know. Her younger brother, Ryan, is also an HK grad who taught mathematics at HKHS and served for several years as the assistant principal at HKMS.

Megan is married and now lives in Middlefield with her husband and 9 year old daughter.

This video is a news conference held at both Hartford Hospital and at Gaylord. It centers upon the remarkable recovery of a 54 yr old man from Glastonbury who had Covid-19. Dr. Megan (Mckenzie) Panico was part of a team of doctors at HH who brought this guy back from the dead. He is to go home tomorrow to his wife and daughter. Megan runs the first 13 minutes of this 16 minute piece. It is very moving to watch.  Here’s the LINK.

Another story has been done on Megan. Here’s the LINK to this Fox 61 story.
