Higganum’s Tim Kohs to Receive 2018 Catherine McAuley Award

Mercy High School is proud to celebrate the Catherine McAuley Award. Catherine McAuley was the Foundress of the Sisters of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland in 1831. The award recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to the school community and have lived by the ideals of the Mercy tradition and is presented every two years.

Sr. Mary A. McCarthy, RSM, President of Mercy High School, announced this year’s recipients of the Catherine McAuley Award who will be honored on April 7, 2018: Mrs. Lori Turgeon Broderick ’80; Mr. Jack Driscoll; Mr. Tim Kohs; Sister Maureen Margaret Reardon, RSM, PhD; Mrs. Pam Burdick Rizy ’79; Mrs. Marilyn Skoge. 

Tim Kohs grew up around and in Xavier and Mercy High Schools. His father taught and coached at Xavier.  Tim, along with his siblings, Todd, Michael, and Paula attended and played sports at the two schools. Tim graduated from Xavier High School in 1985 and from Springfield College in 1989. Prior to working at Mercy, Tim was a Physical Education and Health Teacher at Xavier. While there, he coached freshmen boys basketball and varsity lacrosse. Later, he was the PE department chairperson and the Assistant Athletic Director to Tony Jaskot. In 1993, he became the Head Coach of the Mercy Tigers varsity basketball team and in 2011 he became Mercy’s Athletic Director. Tim lead the Mercy Tigers Basketball Team to winning three State Championships in 1996, 2013 and 2018 respectfully. Tim and his wife of seventeen years, Carlye, have two children, Avery and Brett. The Kohs family resides in Higganum. Tim has been a volunteer coach in his town’s Little League, he coached both Avery and Brett when they were younger and for the past three years coached Avery and his niece Lauren in AAU basketball.

The awards dinner will start at 5:00 p.m. with a reception in the Mercy High School lobby, followed by a sit-down dinner and the awards ceremony.
