On Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, Coginchaug/Hale Ray/East Hampton defeated Haddam Killingworth High School Varsity Football team 18-0 at Coginchaug.
Braden Lankarge ran for one touchdown and passed for two more in the Blue Devils’ win at home on Friday (10/8) in their first-ever home game under the lights. Lankarge connected on touchdown passes of 15 yards to Jackson Hill and 34 yards to Chris Progano, and he ran for another six-yard score.
The Cougars (1-3) held the Blue Devils (5-0) to a 6-0 halftime lead, but a Jake Manning kickoff return to the opponent’s 25 yard line set up the home team’s first of two touchdowns in the decisive third quarter.
“That kick return kind of took the wind out of our sails,” said HK head coach Tyler Wilcox. “We made several good stops on defense in the first half to keep us in the game, but the third quarter was the difference. We just couldn’t get a sustained drive going, especially on the ground.”
“But our kids never gave up,” Wilcox added. “Coginchaug is a very disciplined team under Coach Eagle and we could have folded, but the kids never did. We just have to learn from our mistakes and move on.”
