Find a Fur Baby: Marty

Submitted by Judith Levin.

PLEASE READ THIS POST IN ITS ENTIRETY!   This is Marty….

This is an URGENT PLEA for a foster (must be located in CT) for our one remaining long-timer in boarding – Marty! He has been there for many months while Furry Friends have searched in vain for a foster for him – and there is NO good reason for that because Marty is a well-trained, well-behaved, all-around good boy.

After these many months, Marty is becoming stressed. YES the people at Furry Friends vet’s office love him and YES he gets lots of attention and time out of the kennel – BUT that is no way for him to LIVE – he needs to be in a HOME!

Marty does, however, have some specific needs – so – before you decide that you should be his family – PLEASE READ!

You see, over the months, many families have applied to foster or adopt Marty. However, because people see a picture of a handsome dog and – at best – may skim the post – the vast majority of those applications weren’t appropriate for this poor boy – and the few that WERE appropriate, the families had things come up at the last minute that meant they couldn’t foster 🙁

So here goes!

MARTY:

Is a border collie/terrier mix, almost 5 years old
Weighs about 55 lbs
Needs to be the only dog in the home
Will do well with dog-savvy cats
Should live in a home with older children – 13 years old or older – small children make him nervous
LOVES his ball
LOVES playing soccer
Loves going for adventures with his family but is also happy to curl up and watch TV with you!
Needs an experienced foster family, preferably one with experience with herding dogs and herding behaviors (he has that border collie personality)
Needs a family who will give him PLENTY of time to decompress
Needs a family who will follow our trainer’s guidelines
Needs a securely fenced yard – true to his breed he will follow anything that moves … a rabbit, a squirrel, a chipmunk, a blowing leaf … you get the idea!
Once in a home, Furry Friends trainer will work with Marty and the family to ensure a smooth transition – we are determined to make sure that once he leaves boarding, he does NOT go back here!

Furry Friends will definitely consider a foster-to-adopt option for Marty.
Marty is house-trained, crate trained, walks well on a leash, knows all of his basic commands and even some tricks.

Marty will make an AWESOME family member for the right family!

If you have read this post and think your family and Marty would be a good fit for each other, please fill out the form at Furry Friends website: https://www.furryfriendsct.org/foster-application
