Festive Times at the Haddam Senior Center

Submitted by Colleen Totman, JoAnn Woickelman and Marge DeBold

(December 2, 2022) —The Haddam Senior Center is one of Haddam’s special places of interest, especially for those of us sixty years of age and older.  Let us tell you a little about one of the special things that went on just last month.

A delicious turkey dinner was served to 28 seniors on November 17, 2022.  Events Coordinator Colleen Totman, with the assistance of her husband, John, Claudette Sirois and JoAnn Woickelman, provided the work of presenting a Thanksgiving meal.  The delicious dinner was catered by the River House in Haddam.

Adding to the seasonal atmosphere, the room was festively decorated for the autumn season.  Seniors were seen renewing friendships and making new ones. A good time was had by all. This was just one activity Colleen had planned for November.  Others included seasonal crafts, bingo, card playing, and conversations around topics of common interest.

December special plans include a reindeer craft on December 8, 2022 starting at 10:00 a.m., a Christmas movie on Tuesday, the 13th, and bingo on the 15th starting at 1:00 p.m. Lunch is served, provided by CRT, each day that the center is open.  You can find a menu at the Center (a $3 donation is suggested, and meals must be reserved at least a day in advance.)   Other activities are on the schedule, too.  So, visit the Senior Center to learn more and take part in one of Haddam’s special activity centers.

Some of us will feel comfortable checking out Haddam Seniors Facebook page or the Town of Haddam website to learn more about upcoming activities.

At the town website we learn the following:  The Haddam Senior Center is a family-friendly, non-denominational gathering space, designed to promote the social, intellectual, and physical well-being of adults 60 and older within the community by providing an array of programs as well as information and access to local services. In addition, the Haddam Senior Center serves as a congregate meal site, offering seniors the option of a prepared, well-balanced, affordable lunch in a comfortable, community setting.
