CT River Artisans Artist of the Month June 2019: Pat Rist

Submitted by Linda Cave.

Connecticut River Artisans Cooperative welcomes the month of June and the start of Summer. Our Artist of the Month for June is our remarkable potter, Pat Rist.

The question is, “How did Pat go from teaching chemistry at Drew University to a life of creativity with clay?  Blame her husband! His new job required a move to Connecticut. It wasn’t long until Clay Bodies Pottery was born.”

Pat loves working with clay and has a fascination with the way the clay “memorizes” the impressions of other materials. Consequently, she incorporates pieces created by her family long ago. Pat creates special orders destined to be wedding presents using crochet or embroidery pieces done by the bride or groom’s grand or even great-grand parents. The effects are amazing. Many of her pieces are microwave and dishwasher safe.

See this truly beautiful and useful work at Pat’s reception “A Plethora of Pottery” at our shop, Connecticut River Artisans, 55 Main Street, Essex, CT, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. There will be a discount on Pat’s work at her reception.
