Cross Country 2018: HKHS Undefeated at Shoreline Conference Mega Meet

On Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018 the Haddam Killingworth High School boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Hale Ray High School to compete in the Shoreline Conference Mega Meet which was the last meet of their dual meet season.  Both teams once again went undefeated on the afternoon to finish their dual meet season undefeated with a 14-0 record.  This is the 5th consecutive year in a row the boys team has gone undefeated in dual meets, amassing a record of 76-0 over the past 5 years.  The girls team has gone undefeated for the 4th consecutive season and has compiled a record of 59-0 over that time span.

The boys were led by sophomore Matt Jennings who placed 2nd in the race in a time of 18:23 for the 5k course.  He was followed by senior tri-captain Seth Freeman 3rd (18:26), freshman Caleb Freeman 5th (18:32) and sophomores Sean Rutledge 7th (18:50) and Fisher Harris 8th (18:56). The boys team defeated Old Lyme 15-50, Portland 15-50, Old Saybrook 22-39, Cromwell 18-45 and Valley 15-48.

The girls team was led once again by senior co-captain Emma Anziano who won the race in a time of 22:37 for the 3.1 mile course.  Crossing the line behind her was sophomore Meara Bodak 4th (22:51), juniors Julia Callis 5th (22:54) and Lauren D’Amico 9th (23:10) and freshman Ali Twachtman 10th (23:13) to round out the scoring. The H-K girls team defeated Old Lyme 15-48, Coginchaug 19-44, Portland 15-50, Old Saybrook 21-36 and Valley 19-44.
The teams will next be in action on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 as they head back to Hale Ray HS to compete at the Shoreline Championship meet.
