Courtney Statement on Electoral College Vote to Affirm Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States

Submitted by  Patrick Cassidy

(December 14, 2020) VERNON, CT – Rep. Joe Courtney (CT-02) issued the following statement this evening after electors in all fifty states had officially cast their ballots in the formal Electoral College process, affirming Joe Biden’s election as the 46th President of the United States.

“Tonight’s final vote by Electoral College members from across the U.S. confirms, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution, that Joe Biden has been elected the 46th President of the United States,” said Courtney. “In the remaining days of the 117th Congress we should work together to help a smooth transition to President-elect Biden as past Congresses have done for the good of the country. In the next few days we will work to enact new COVID-19 aid for the millions of Americans whose health and safety are still in dire risk of illness and financial harm. Congratulations once again to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris—now that the people have spoken, let’s get to work.”
