Courtney: Default/Debt Crisis/Shutdown averted

Rep. Courtney Statement Following Senate Advancement of Bipartisan Budget Deal

NORWICH, CT – Today, 8/1/19, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) made the following statement after the Senate voted to pass by a margin of 67-28 a two-year bipartisan budget deal that raises the debt ceiling and helps put an end to the threat of a debt crisis this fall:

“This bipartisan measure eliminates the possibility of a default and reduces the risk of another shutdown,” said Congressman Courtney. “With Senate’s advancement of the budget deal—the same deal we voted to pass in the House last week—committees like the House Armed Services Committee will now have a solid framework to complete the defense bill in a timely fashion. We’ve worked across the aisle this Congress to get our work done on important bills like the NDAA, and I look forward to doing so once again on our defense and domestic appropriations bills now that the Senate has acted.”

Last week, Congressman Courtney voted to pass the Bipartisan Budget Agreement Act in the House of Representatives, noting that the bill was crafted “with significant input from Congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle as well as the Administration.” Click here to read more.
