Courtney Congratulates Rep. DeLauro on Being Elected to Chair the House Appropriations Committee

Submitted by Patrick Cassidy, Communications Director.

(Dec. 3, 2020) WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Joe Courtney (CT-02) offered congratulations to Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) following her election by the House Majority to become the Chair of the House Appropriations Committee in the upcoming 117th Congress.

“There’s no one better equipped to handle the gavel of the Appropriations Committee than Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro,” said Congressman Courtney. “She’s an expert legislator and founding member of the Progressive Caucus who has been in the trenches on some of our most important efforts to protect working Americans, she’s got the experience, and she’s worked hard to build great relationships with Representatives across the country. Rosa has excelled at every level, from her numerous committee assignments, to her position as Co-Chair of the Democratic Steering Committee, which made her the first Member of Congress that many newly elected Representatives would meet with upon their arrival to Washington. I was proud to support Congresswoman DeLauro’s bid to become the next Chair of the Appropriations Committee, and I’m looking forward to continuing our work together to support eastern Connecticut.”

Congresswoman DeLauro won today’s caucus-wide vote to become the next Chair of the House Appropriations Committee by an overwhelming margin of 148-79. Upon securing the gavel, Rep. DeLauro becomes just the second woman to Chair the House Appropriations Committee, and the first ever Chair from Connecticut. Rep. DeLauro currently chairs the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies.
