Letter to the Editor: Op Ed a Voice of Reason

The views stated here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of the editors of this newspaper.

To the Editors:

Dr. Meghan Peterson’s op-ed piece in the August 27, 2020 edition of the Haddam-Killingworth News was a refreshing, albeit chilling, display of rational thinking in an era when clarity of thought has become an endangered species.

The truth is, be it called Communism, Fascism, or any other word you’d like to use, what it all boils down to is tyranny – which is unfortunately a growing and exponential danger to every democracy on our increasingly troubled planet.

George Santayana said it so well: “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” When I see what is happening worldwide, and in the United States in particular, it makes me wonder what kind of history is currently being taught by our educational systems.

Thanks, Dr. Peterson, for doing such an excellent job in your presentation. It is very reassuring to hear a voice of reason in these very unreasonable times.
