WILLIMANTIC, CT (05/01/2020)– Students in the ETV News club at Eastern Connecticut State University are putting their television production skills to the test during the COVID-19 pandemic by producing its weekly newscast remotely from home. With limited resources, club members are continuing to provide special coronavirus coverage to the Eastern community every Thursday night on their YouTube channel, “Eastern CT Television – ETV News.”
Among the students involved is senior Emily St. Lawrence of Higganum, who majors in Communication.
The at-home newscast came about in the wake of Eastern’s move to online learning and the University’s stay-at-home policy, which went into effect following spring break on March 23. The newscast focuses on the global COVID-19 pandemic, offering viewers information, advice and thoughts from Eastern administrators and others from the University community.
Without access to Eastern’s TV studio and high-end lights, cameras and microphones, students are improvising with lamps, tables and other items at hand to forge home studios.
Episodes have covered such topics as the pandemic’s effect on mental health, college athletics, admissions and the move to online classes. To view ETV’s latest newscasts, visit the YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCs86aYj0_dNFxDvMFXPbsAw.
